Fiduciary services in Cyprus: clear authority, transparent ownership

Good administration begins with a defined mandate and proper due diligence.

The procedure

First identify the service required: company administration, officer appointments, registered-office support or trust administration. Confirm the provider’s entitlement to act and the relevant supervisory framework. Cyprus law regulates administrative services and recognises specified professional exemptions; the applicable regulator depends on the provider’s status.

What deserves attention

Expect checks on identity, beneficial ownership and the purpose of the relationship, together with supporting funding information appropriate to the risk. Nominee arrangements do not remove beneficial-ownership disclosure obligations. Information must remain accurate throughout the relationship, and trust arrangements require attention to the relevant registers and reporting duties.

Agree the practical safeguards

Use a written engagement defining authority, approvals, fees, reporting and termination. Clarify who may sign, access accounts or instruct transactions. Ask how records will be maintained and handed over if the relationship ends. Bring ownership charts and corporate or trust documents so that the proposed arrangements can be assessed before appointments or transfers are made.
